MEDICAL OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR SUPPLY
A medical oxygen concentrator supply separates nitrogen and oxygen gas, this
leaves only the oxygen from the air.
The oxygen is stored in the container and given back through a mask or cannula.
It uses ambient air as a source of oxygen by separating these two components.
It utilizes the property of zeolite granules to selectively absorb nitrogen from
compressed air.
In the process, nitrogen binds to the zeolite, while oxygen passes
through.
Before the column becomes saturated with nitrogen the flow of air is
switched to a second column; the first column is vented to atmosphere,
discharging most of the nitrogen, and the remainder of the nitrogen is
removed by back flushing the column with a small flow of oxygen from
the second column.
As the second column approaches saturation the process is reversed.
The gas emerging from the columns passes through a small reservoir
chamber and a flow control system to the patient.
medical oxygen concentrator supplys have different types and
sizes.
And they comes in these parts: power switch that turns the concentrator
on and off, flow meter that controls the rate of the oxygen that comes
out of the container, alarm buzzer that goes off whenever the power
stops and the humidifier bottle wherein water is mixed with the oxygen
which is warmed before the patient breathes it.
In this way, it prevents the nose, mouth and throat to become dry.
In using medical oxygen concentrator supply, check the air
inlet filter to make sure it is in place and clean before plugging the
unit.
Make sure that it has a buzzer that works, if the sound failed, turn it
off and use different oxygen source.
The flow meter should also be in correct number based on the suggested
rate of the caregiver.
In using the oxygen tank, you should check first the level of
water in the modifier, it the there is a low amount of water left,
refill the bottle with sterile or distilled one. If not, use pre-filled
water instead.
Using tap water is a big no-no because it may contain other mineral
that may combine in the oxygen. Do this at least one a day.
The oxygen tube should be hook in the humidifier while the other end in the
tubing of nasal cannula or oxygen mask.
Plug the power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. Push the power switch to
turn on the unit.
The green power light should come on and the alert buzzer should sound for 60
seconds.
After the alert buzzer goes off, put on the breathing device and begin breathing
the oxygen.
